The Writers' Union of Canada offers funding for authors to read in Ontario-based schools through two Writers-in-the-Schools (WITS) programs. To be eligible for funding, authors must be members of The Writers' Union of Canada. Please refer to the Member Directory or browse the Writers-in-the-Schools Participating Authors list for information on authors.

Ontario Writers-in-the-Schools

Funded by the Ontario Arts Council, the Union’s Writers-in-the-Schools program provides funding for author appearances in Ontario’s schools. This program allows students and authors to connect while providing an honorarium to the author for their time.

Northern Ontario Writers-in-the-Schools

Under the Northern Ontario Writers-in-the-Schools program, the Union subsidizes an author’s reading fee and travel and accommodation expenses for a tour of three schools within the same region of northern Ontario. This program is currently on hiatus due to the COVID-19 Pandemic; Northern Ontario schools are strongly encouraged to use the Ontario Writers-in-the-Schools Program.
