John Firth was appointed the Yukon Story Laureate on January 13, 2024. This is a two year appointment. John outlined his vision of the laureate as one who not only is an ambassador of the literary arts, but also an advocate. "It bears with it the responsibility to tell the story of the importance of literacy and the literary arts. Both contemporary and from time immemorial. To promote and encourage future storytellers in all genres. To respect the complexity of our very diverse northern culture."
