A.J.B. Johnston writes both fiction and history.
John (or Jay) is originally from Truro, NS, and completed an MA in History at Dalhousie University, then a PhD at the Université Laval. He worked for Parks Canada for many years, with his time at the Fortress of Louisbourg being formative. For his body of work on French Colonial history in Atlantic Canada the government of France made John a chevalier of its Ordre des Palmes Académiques.
In 2017, he was Writer-in-Residence at the Center for the Writing Arts in Fairhope, AL. He is the author of five novels and sixteen books of history. When not writing books, he sometimes writes exhibits for museums.
In 2020, Nimbus published Kings of Friday Night: The Lincolns. In 2021, Acorn Press published Ancient, Land New Land, co-authored with Jesse Francis.
