David Jongeward’s writing over the past thirty years is a mix of academic, fiction and non-fiction. Born and raised in Bozeman, Montana, he has a MA in Anthropology from San Francisco State University, followed by PhD research at the University of British Columbia, and several years as instructor of cultural anthropology at Douglas College, New Westminster, BC. Subsequently, he freelanced, supported by grants and commissions for writing projects in the American Southwest. His first book of creative non-fiction (1990) was written in Taos, New Mexico and London, England. A few years later, Jongeward returned to academia for a MA in South Asian history at the University of Toronto. He traveled extensively in Pakistan, India, Japan and Europe working as an independent scholar and writer. A specialization in ancient Central Asian history has resulted in four books (2003, 2012, 2015, 2018). His most recent book (2020), currently being revised and expanded, documents 20 years of Jongeward’s experience as a cultural historian, symbolist and student of Zen.
