Sharon Berg released two books in September 2019 and two more in September 2020. She writes poetry, fiction, nonfiction, book reviews, and articles.Sharon released her debut collection of short fiction called 'Naming the Shadows' (Porcupines Quill. 2019). Next, was a cross-genre history called 'The Name Unspoken: Wandering Spirit Survival School' (Big Pond Rumours Press, 2019) which won a 2020 IPPY Award for Regional Nonfiction. After that she was a Finalist in the 2022 International Book Awards with 'Stars in the Junkyard' (Cyberwit, India, 2020). 'Before the Heart Went Down: Selected Poems by Robert Billings' (editor, Cyberwit, 2020) appeared the same year. She's published poems in periodicals across Canada as well as in the USA, Mexico, the UK, The Netherlands, India, Singapore, and Australia. Her first two books were both poetry: 'To a Young Horse' (Borealis Press, 1979) and 'The Body Labyrinth' (Coach House Press, 1984). Then she took a hiatus for her studies and her career as an elementary school teacher. She founded the International literary E-Zine Big Pond Rumours (2006-2019) and released three chapbooks (2006, 2016, and 2017) through its associated chapbook press which published many Canadian authors. After retiring in 2016, she published short stories and poetry in various periodicals in Canada and the USA, returning to her earlier career as a writer. In December 2020, she moved from Ontario to Newfoundland, where she now operates Oceanview Writers Retreat in Charlottetown, NL, a tiny hamlet in the middle of Terra Nova National Park. You can engage her to deliver classroom workshops through either The Writers Union or Poetry in Voice. Poetry in Voice allows her to coach students in the oral delivery of poetry for local and national competitions. Sharon has two grown daughters who are making their own families.
