Carmela Circelli was born in southern Italy and grew up in Montreal. She moved to Toronto in 1976 to study philosophy. She has been teaching on contract in the Philosophy and Humanities department of York University since 1990. She also has a private paractice as a psychotherapist in Toronto. Sweet Nothing is her first book length publication.
