Leslie Kern is the author of Gentrification is Inevitable and Other Lies and Feminist City: A Field Guide (Between the Lines/Verso Books), as well as Sex and the Revitalized City: Gender, Condominium Development, and Urban Citizenship (UBC Press, 2010). She is an associate professor of geography and environment and women’s and gender studies at Mount Allison University. Kern's research has earned a Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award, a National Housing Studies Achievement Award, and several national multi-year grants. She is also an award-winning teacher. Kern's writing has appeared in The Guardian, Vox, Bloomberg CityLab, and Refinery29. Kern has a Substack newsletter called Perfectly Cromulent. She is also an academic career coach, helping academics find meaning and joy in their work. Leslie currently lives in the territory of Mi’kmaqi in the town of Sackville, New Brunswick with her partner and cats.
