Vera is a poet and fiction writer with an interest in other genres as well. Enlightened by Defilement, An Almost Memoir in haibun was released April 2023 by Latitude 46 Publishing. During the two years of the Covid lockdown, Vera served as Greater Sudbury's sixth poet laureate. Being the lockdown laureate was challenging, but very rewarding. Vera's fiction, haiku, haibun and creative non fiction have been selected for publication during her thirty years of writing. She is deep in a work in progress, stay tuned.
Attendees will learn the basic steps of writing Haibun, haiku and senryu and how these three forms work both independently and together to create concise, emotionally open prose and poetry. There will be examples of all three forms to inform and entertain listeners.
Participants will be given the relative information about the Japanese genres of haiku, senryu or haibun in whichever form has been chosen the workshop. Examples of the form will be read, *a little show during telling. Prepared with information and examples, participants will be given time to ask questions followed by short writing periods. Afterward, everyone will be invited to read their work. Reading is completely voluntary, there's no pressure. Follow-up discussion for questions that arise during the writing period.
