The true story of best-selling spiritual writer Henri Nouwen's unexpected friendship with a trapeze troupe in a travelling circus. 

Now, twenty-five years after Nouwen’s death, his friend and colleague Carolyn Whitney-Brown presents his unpublished trapeze writings framed by Nouwen’s rescue by paramedics through a hotel window during his first heart attack. Looking back over his life, Nouwen reflects on how he was transformed by his engagement with these trapeze artists, as well as through participating in the Civil Rights movement, living in a L'Arche community with people with intellectual disabilities, developing new friendships during the 1990s AIDS pandemic, and other unexpected encounters.
