Dr. Joanna Kafarowski has a passion for uncovering and writing about the lives of forgotten polar women. Currently, she is undertaking research for a new book about women's exploration in Greenland. She is the author of "Antarctic Pioneer The Trailblazing Life of Jackie Ronne." This is the first biography of a female Antarctic explorer and was published in May, 2022 by Dundurn Press. She also wrote "The Polar Adventures of a Rich American Dame A Life of Louise Arner Boyd" (Dundurn Press, 2017) which is the first comprehensive biography of a female Arctic explorer. It was released in 2021 as an audiobook by Blackstock Publishers and published in 2018 in Spanish by Ediciones Casiopea.

Joanna Kafarowski is a Canadian geographer who has worked extensively with Indigenous communities in the Arctic. She is the editor of "Gender, Culture and Northern Fisheries"  (University of Alberta, 2009). She is a Fellow of The Explorers Club, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a director and Chair of the Communications and Engagement Committee of the Society of Woman Geographers, a Member of  International Arctic Social Sciences Association, an Associate of the American Geographical Society, a Member of the Canadian Association of Geographers and a Member of The Antarctican Society.
