Dorothy Anne Phillips, graduated from the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Alberta. A social psychologist, she retired from a research career in the federal civil service in 1996. Living in Ottawa, she took advantage of Library and Archives Canada to find records of the the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire during his term as Governor General of Canada from 1916-1921. After extensive travel, including to the Devonshire family home, Chatsworth, in England, she pieced together the full story of this family during the eventful years of the Great War and its aftermath.
